HOW DOES INDIAN HEAD MASSAGE WORK?

The upper body is the prime area for holding tension and stress. With hectic lifestyles and poor posture we place more and more strain on the muscles of the back, shoulders and neck. Indian Head Massage concentrates on these key areas and gently, calmly but firmly eases the tension away.

Indian Head Massage works with a firm and gentle rhythm to help release blockages and relieve the uncomfortable build-up of tension in the tissues, muscles and joints of the head, face, neck and shoulders. As the massage works on the physical body, the relief of tension in these areas is felt immediately. All areas of the body are affected by this release of tension.

WHAT IS INDIAN HEAD MASSAGE GOOD FOR?

Indian Head Massage is especially good for relieving stress, tension, fatigue, insomnia, headaches, migraine, eyestrain and eye problems, tinnitus and other ear problems, neck and shoulder stiffness, sinusitis and sinus congestion, hair loss or thinning, and scalp tension. It leaves the client with a feeling of peace and tranquility. Clients report that the experience is deeply calming and relaxing, leaving them feeling energised and revitalised and better able to concentrate. Massage also helps increase joint mobility and flexibility and frees muscular tension. Indian Head Massage can have a very uplifting affect on the mind, improving our outlook and general sense of not feeling clear-headed enough to see how wonderful everything is. It lifts the spirits and ones mental outlook.

Indian Head Massage brings a general feeling of well-being, calmness and relaxation. There is a dispersal of toxins from tense, knotted muscles and a stimulation and improvement of the circulatory and lymphatic systems. WHAT HAPPENS DURING AN INDIAN HEAD MASSAGE TREATMENT?

I suggest wearing clothing which allows easy access to the head, neck and shoulders. Before the treatment you will need to remove any jewellery or glasses, and you may find it more comfortable to remove your shoes as well. You will then sit down in a comfortable chair without crossing your legs. I will stand behind you whilst performing your Indian Head Massage. Each treatment is a unique experience where you are able to deeply relax.

I will use a range of different massage techniques including deep kneading, compression, thumb and finger pressure, friction and soothing stroking. Your comfort is the main priority.

As well as being a relaxing treatment, your head massage can also be an invigorating and refreshing experience. Clients often report a 'balanced' feeling of peace and calm, and will usually feel more alert and revitalised following a treatment. Indian Head Massage aims to treat the whole person and not just the symptoms you may arrive with.

EAR CANDLES

HOW DO THEY WORK?

Also known as Hopi ear candling, or thermal auricular therapy, ear candles can vary in form, but they all work on a chimney principle. One end of a cylinder of waxed cloth is placed into the client's ear, and the other is set alight to smoulder down slowly and evenly. As the candle burns, the heat moving down it creates a vacuum. The flame creates negative pressure, drawing wax and debris out of the ear canal.

The vapour emitted by the herbs and oils in the body of the hollow tube collects and removes impurities or deposits in the ear. Most of these are carried away and evaporate through the candle "chimney". Some of them can be found in the condensed candle wax residue after the candle has finished burning. When these impurities have been drawn out, they can be gently removed from the ear. The clearing process can continue for 24-48 hours after the treatment has finished, as impurities gradually work their way up to the surface of the ear.

Ear candles equalise the pressure in the head and ears. This has a balancing impact on all activities in the head, which can be beneficial for a number of conditions. The secretion and flow of fluids in the ear is gently stimulated and brought into balance.

WHAT ARE EAR CANDLES GOOD FOR?

The candles soothe, relieve and calm the client, creating a great opportunity for relaxation. Ear candles are particularly helpful for excessive or compacted wax in the ears, irritation in the ears and sinuses, and pressure regulation in the ears in cases of sinusitis, rhinitis or glue ear. The candles can really help with colds and flu, persistent headaches and migraines. They can also be used as a gentle treatment for ear problems such as earaches and infections.

The treatment can give rise to an energetic revitalisation in cases of hearing impairment. There is a calming effect in cases of stress and anxiety. Noises in the ears, such as ringing andtinnitus can subside with regular use of ear candles.

Ear candles are safe and very effective. The main objective of a Hopi Ear Candle treatment is to stimulate the body's energy systems. This generates an opportunity for healing in the body, mind and emotions, affecting all organs and systems of the body, as well as the mental and emotional disposition.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING A TREATMENT?

During your treatment you will rest comfortably on your side listening to music, or talking to your therapist if you so choose. One end of the candle is then gently placed at the entrance of the auditory canal. The other end is lit and burns down slowly. It is held steady in a vertical position by the therapist who monitors the process.

You may hear a crackling sound as the candle burns. This is accompanied by a warm confortable feeling in the ear. After approximately 15 minutes the flame is extinguished approximately two inches above the ear.

The candle is carefully taken away and once you have turned over to the other side, the process is then repeated in the other ear with a new candle.

Most clients find the whole experience incredibly relaxing and some even fall asleep during treatment.
